<![CDATA[How to remove odours from your car in one simple step]]>Tue, 05 Nov 2013 04:59:06 GMThttp://naturzaire.com/blog/how-to-remove-odours-from-your-car-in-one-simple-stepPicture
Does your car smell? Getting rid of the odour of stale tobacco smoke, wet dog, old spilled food can seem like a challenge. These smells make your car a nasty place to be and an embarrassment for you if you have to transport passengers.

Lots of people try to get rid of odours in their cars by covering them up with new smells, by hanging little dangling air fresheners from the rearview mirror. But these don't solve the problem and only add more, possibly dangerous, chemicals to the mix, risking your health.

NaturzAire all-natural mineral pouches remove odours like a magnet. But don't take our word for it. Read what some of our customers say about how NaturzAire products work in their cars on everything from sour milks smells, to stale smoke odour to chilli garlic squid oil!:

"I’m a smoker and my car constantly reeked of stale smoke. My friends and I were heading off on a road trip the next week and I knew the smell was going to be an issue. I tried a couple of products but they just added another layer to the existing smell. I put a large pouch of Auto Refresh in the car and the next day it was way better. After a couple of days there was no smell. I was amazed." S.S. Burnaby, BC

"On the way home from work my wife called and asked me to pick up some take-out Chinese food. In a rush, I casually placed the food in my trunk. When I arrived home I realized that one of the containers had toppled over spilling chilli garlic squid oil all over the carpet of my trunk. I washed the carpet but it still stank, especially on hot days. I used some Auto Refresh granules and overnight the smell was completely gone!" C.T-M Toronto, ON

"I spilled milk in my truck. Folks had told me that it was about the hardest possible smell to try to remove. As the weather started to warm up, the smell in my truck was getting downright nasty. I live in Surrey near where Effective Environmental Solutions used to be located. I stopped by their office and, being right neighbourly, they gave me some Car & Truck Fresh granules to put on the spot. It’s summer now and there’s no smell at all." C. M. Surrey, BC

"My company recently purchased a cargo van which was absolutely saturated with the smell of cigarette smoke. I placed a few Auto Refresh pouches inside and let them work for a few days. After about three days the smell was completely gone. I was truly impressed." P.S. Surrey BC

<![CDATA[The best alternative to chemical air fresheners]]>Tue, 05 Nov 2013 04:37:53 GMThttp://naturzaire.com/blog/the-best-alternative-to-chemical-air-freshenersMore and more news is emerging about the harmful effects of chemical air fresheners and the dangers they post to our health. NaturzAire all-natural products are the perfect solution to your odour problems. Rather than mask smells with chemicals, the naturally occurring mineral in all NaturzAire products traps odours like a magnet.

An August 2012 Care2 campaign entitled "Exposed: The Shocking Truth About Air Fresheners" said:

"Before you spray Febreze or plug in a Glade Plug-In, light a scented candle, or use some so-called air freshening wick, mist, aerosol, or other car or room deodorizer, think twice. You’ll be shocked to learn their ingredients and the harmful effects they can cause. That “Cleansing Rain,” “Summer Breeze,” “Fresh Country,” “Cool Morning Air” or “Berry Burst” might be having disastrous effects on your health or the health of your family, including children and unborn fetuses.

Hormone-Disrupting Phthalates:

The Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC)—an international environmental organization—conducted a study called, “Clearing the Air: Hidden Hazards of Air Fresheners” in which they found 86% of air fresheners tested contained dangerous phthalates.

Phthalates are used as plastic softeners, anti-foaming agents in aerosols, in vinyl found in children’s toys, automobiles, paints, pesticides, and in cosmetics and fragrances. According to the NRDC research, “Most phthalates are well known to interfere with production of the male hormone testosterone, and have been associated with reproductive abnormalities.”

Numerous animal studies have shown exposure to phthalates decreases testosterone, causes malformations of the genitalia, and reduced sperm production. Human studies link phthalates to changes in hormones, poor semen quality, and changes in genital formation. Five phthalates, including one found in air fresheners are listed by the State of California as “known to cause birth defects or reproductive harm.” Additionally, phthalates in air fresheners are associated with allergic symptoms and asthma, according to the NRDC.

Research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control found that the majority of the American population is routinely exposed to at least five different phthalates. Their research also shows that even if the exposures are small (they may not be!), there is a significant health threat due to the combination of phthalates acting as a higher dose.

Discover the amount of phthalates in these common brands of air fresheners… and then choose NaturzAire to get rid of odours in your home, car, truck, RV and boat - the natural, safe way.

<![CDATA[Tests on air fresheners show high levels of dangerous chemicals]]>Tue, 05 Nov 2013 04:28:40 GMThttp://naturzaire.com/blog/tests-on-air-fresheners-show-high-levels-of-dangerous-chemicalsPicture of blue sky and wispy clouds
Chemical air fresheners that people regularly use in their cars and their homes are not as sweet as they smell and may pose significant health risks according to news published in September 2013.

Six commonly used household air freshener products found at supermarkets and shops nationwide were tested by a consumer group for four dangerous chemicals – toluene, benzene, formaldehyde and phthalates.

All were found to contain relatively high levels of at least one of these chemicals, with phthalates – which are endocrine disrupting substances (EDS) – found in four of the six products.

Long-term exposure to EDS can lead to irreversible damage to the immune system and the brain.

According to Ratna Devi Nadarajan, the CEO of the Malaysian Association of Standards Users that conducted the test, EDS could even cause males to act more feminine and vice-versa.

“It can also stunt the development of vital organs and cause miscarriages. The extent of the damage, however, depends on the individual’s health, with pregnant women and children at higher risk,” she said.

Some air fresheners, Ratna said, were found to have a mixture of several types of phthalates, which is even more dangerous.

Two of the air fresheners were found to contain toluene, which can cause damage to the liver, kidney and brain over long-term usage.

The association also found that a locally manufactured air freshener had the highest content of harmful chemicals – it had toluene and three types of phthalates.

Ratna pointed out that many people, especially in urban areas, spent a few hours in their cars every day, inhaling the chemicals from the air fresheners.

“At the very least, these chemicals can cause headaches, nausea and depression,” she said.

When in a confined environment like in a car with very little fresh air, she said the chemicals were more harmful.

Ratna said they were still waiting for data on the limitation and regulation of air fresheners from the local regulators as well as other countries to do a comparison.

Consumers should avoid using air fresheners too often and instead opt for natural ventilation and hygiene at home, she advised.

National Poison Centre consultant Dr T. Jayabalan warned that there could be a delayed onset of the harm from using air fresheners making it difficult to link it to the cause.

He said phthalates had been classified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as a “probable human carcinogen” which means it could cause cancer, while the US Department of Health and Human Services had classified it as a “potential carcinogen”.

NaturzAire products do not mask odours with chemicals. All of our products are made from a natural volcanic mineral called zeolite that absorbs odours and moisture rather than covering them up.

<![CDATA[Indoor Air Pollution Causes Health Risks]]>Tue, 05 Nov 2013 04:13:58 GMThttp://naturzaire.com/blog/indoor-air-pollution-causes-health-risksPicture
The US Environmental Protection Association has stated that indoor air pollution caused by things such as air fresheners cause short and long-term health problems.

Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in homes. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out of the home. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.

The EPA website states that, "Household products like air fresheners, release pollutants more or less continuously." Other continuous sources of indoor pollution include building materials and furnishings. That is one important reason why using NaturzAire natural products to eliminate odours is much better that than trying to mask odours with chemicals that may be harmful to you and your family's health.

Other sources of indoor air pollution release pollutants intermittently. These include smoking, the use of unvented or malfunctioning stoves, furnaces, or space heaters, the use of solvents in cleaning and hobby activities, the use of paint strippers in redecorating activities, and the use of cleaning products and pesticides in house-keeping. High pollutant concentrations can remain in the air for long periods after some of these activities.

Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later.

Immediate effects such as irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue may show up soon after a single exposure or after repeated exposures . Usually immediate effects are short-term and treatable. Sometimes the treatment is simply eliminating the person's exposure to the source of the pollution, if it can be identified. Symptoms of some diseases, including asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and humidifier fever, may also show up soon after exposure to some indoor air pollutants.

The likelihood of immediate reactions to indoor air pollutants depends on several factors. Age and preexisting medical conditions are two important influences. In other cases, whether a person reacts to a pollutant depends on individual sensitivity, which varies tremendously from person to person. Some people can become sensitized to biological pollutants after repeated exposures, and it appears that some people can become sensitized to chemical pollutants as well.

Long-term effects of indoor air pollution

Other health effects may show up either years after exposure has occurred or only after long or repeated periods of exposure. These effects, which include some respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer, can be severely debilitating or fatal. It is prudent to try to improve the indoor air quality in your home even if symptoms are not noticeable.

While pollutants commonly found in indoor air are responsible for many harmful effects, there is considerable uncertainty about what concentrations or periods of exposure are necessary to produce specific health problems. People also react very differently to exposure to indoor air pollutants. Further research is needed to better understand which health effects occur after exposure to the average pollutant concentrations found in homes and which occurs from the higher concentrations that occur for short periods of time.
